This past weekend Dasher, Zip and I headed to the Fairhill International horse show, they site of Kinetic Dog’s USDAA 3 day trial Traditionally this trial is notorious for having harsh weather conditions. This weekend was no exception. Probably the worst conditions I have ever shown in. Dasher and Zip were entered in all the tournament classes, Steeplchase, Grand Prix and DAM Team. Friday was very cold and the rain held off somewhat, only misting throughout the day. Zip had a fantastic day!! He Q’d in all four classes he was entered. He got a Standard Q, a Gambler’s Q, a Snooker Super Q and a Steeplechase Q!! Wo Hoo!! Dasher had a nice opening in Snooker and Gamblers but had a rail down in the Snooker close and he slipped in the mud going into the gamble so he dropped with 1st bar (but he did get the gamble!). Saturday the conditions worsened with heavy rain first thing in the morning and continuing all day. I decided I would scratch both dogs from the team competition as it was not worth getting the dogs hurt, especially so close to AZ. I was a bit disappointed but it was for the best as the rings got very slick throughout the day. I did stick around to see what the conditions were like for the Grand Prix. Luckily the show coordinators moved the Grand Prix into the Starters ring which was in much better shape than the other rings. I decided to run both dogs in the GP. Dasher had a smokin’ run, very efficient and listening great. Unfortunately he had the 1st bar down so no Q for us. Zip was next, the little punk broke his start line stay and was pushing his contacts. Good thing the little peanut is talented because we managed to get through without any faults, in fact he ended up with a 1st place!
Sunday was a bust, the rain had continued all night and there was standing water in all the rings. I was only entered in Standard on Sunday so I scratched both dogs, packed up the tent and went up to watch some of the stadium jumping. We were home relaxing on the couch by 1:00 p.m. Here is short clip of what the grounds looked like on Sunday:
Can’t wait to run the dogs under the warm Arizona sun!!
