A few weeks ago Roxy and I headed to Barto, PA to try out for the IFCS World Team. This was our first time trying out for any world team. I knew going into the event that our training still was a work in progress but I felt this would be a good experience for both of us. It is an interesting feeling going into a big event with a young dog. I was nervous, but not for what I would consider the “normal” reasons. I wanted to make sure Roxy had a positive experience and I also wasn’t sure how she would handle the pressure and atmosphere of this type of event. I knew the courses would be fun and challenging and I felt we were up for it. I knew it was up to me to set the tone of the event for Roxy, I hoped I would not let her down. A plus to competing in Barto was the chance to see all my east coast buddies. 🙂 It was like coming home again. The event itself was incredibly well run. The camaraderie and sportsmanship made the entire weekend electric. Everyone was cheering for everyone. I cannot wait for next year’s event!!
I was so very proud of Roxy all weekend. She handled all the courses like a champ and she gave me 100%. Our runs had some bobbles here and there and I made some mistakes in my handling choices but we also had some amazing moments of brilliance. Watching the videos I can see glimmers of what I hope will only continue to become more brilliant. Whatever happens, I am having an amazing time with my poodly-girl! By the end of the weekend Roxy had zero off courses, the bobbles we incurred were lack of milage. After all the scores were added up Roxy and I earned the alternate spot on the USA Team! I could not have been prouder for our first time on the big stage.
I complied a short video of some of our highlights. Enjoy!!
